Morgan County's Emergency Alert System

What is the new emergency alert system?

Morgan County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) has been working to implement a new alerting technology that will allow Morgan County residents to register, or opt-in, for emergency alerts. Everbridge is a Critical Event Management company that launched in the aftermath of 9/11 to help keep people safe and operations running during major public safety threats. Over 5,300 organizations use Everbridge to manage critical events like severe weather and COVID-19. The platform reaches more than 600 million people in over 200 countries, including many of America’s largest cities, counties, and entire states. Since the coronavirus pandemic began, Everbridge has been used to send more than 850 million coronavirus-related communications to a global audience.

What alerts can I receive?

These alerts include severe weather, public safety alerts, special event messaging, etc. The best part... You have control over the alerts you receive and how you receive them (e.g. text message, phone call, email, etc.) and can opt in/out at anytime. Certain alerts (i.e. Tornado Warning for your area) will be sent during life threatening emergencies to everyone.

How do I receive the alerts?

While registering for an account, you have full control over how you want to receive the alerts. So, you can register to receive a text message, phone call to mobile or landline, email, etc. You will also have the ability to determine the order that alerts are sent to you. Keep in mind, the system is only as good as the information you provide so please provide accurate contact information.

How often will I receive alerts?

The number of alerts you receive will vary depending on what alerts you opt-in and out for. The automated alerts for weather will vary based on what you register for and what is issued. For example, you can choose only to receive Tornado Warnings (mandatory) and Tornado Watches issued for your area. Weather alerts are automatically sent out when the National Weather Service issues a weather advisory, watch or warning. Additional alerts will also vary based on your location and the event that would trigger us sending out an alert based on the community it will impact.

Is my contact information shared with others?

No. The information you provide when registering will only be used for the purpose of notifying you of an emergency. We will not give or sell your contact information to any vendor or organization.
